Porsche 718 Boxster Spyder Will Get GT3’s Flat-Six
Recently the Porsche motorsports guys promised that they’d deliver more accessible enthusiast focused sports cars. Clearly the current Porsche 911 GT3 with a manual gearbox and the Touring Edition of the GT3 with less wings and adornments are clear signs Porsche is serious.
The latest rumor courtesy of the folks at Autocar magazine is that Porsche Motorsport is building new 718 Boxster with the naturally-aspirated flat-six engine from the 911 GT3. We’ve always wanted a Boxster with a more potent engine, so the prospect of a Boxster with the ultimate Porsche engine is a tasty proposition indeed.
Autocar says the new Boxster Spyder will be closely related to the new Cayman GT4 and will give us Porsche fans what we have always wanted, a real motorsport-derived motor. Let’s imagine for a second what a 493 hp flat six could do to transform the Boxster performance. Yep, it is pretty bloody exciting. Even if they detuned the thing down to 425hp, that’s still a massive jump and it’s a flat six so it won’t sound like crap like the current turbocharged four cylinder in the Boxster.
