Five (Underrated) Sports Cars Made by BMW

The Five Best (Underrated) Sports Cars Made by BMW

Over the years, BMW has been responsible for creating some of the most sporty and fast cars ever seen on the consumer market. The quality of their engineering is second to none and the performance is well known amongst purists and the general public.

When we recently created The 10 Best BMW M Cars ever list, we realized that there weren’t any surprises. Nobody was shocked to see the E36 M3 or  3.0 CSL E9 on our list.

With that in mind, we have a new list. It is the top BMW cars that we feel are underrated.

Here’s our list (warning, it may be controversial):

BMW M6 Gran Coupe

The twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine inside the M6 Gran Coupe proves why this model was so much better than the ordinary M5. It can also get from 0 to 60 in an impressive 3.8 seconds and it does it total comfort. And the slick and streamlined body of the car make it a joy to look at as well as drive. It’s a luxury car, so you won’t be able to pick one up without spending a lot of money. But that outlay might just be worth it. Who says you need a BMW that is an uncompromised sports car?

BMW M3 CRT

The CRT is the lightweight variant of the normal BMW M3, and this makes it even faster. We like faster. The previous generation M3 platform was really the best iteration. BMW basically built a lightweight M3 GTS with four doors—and all of its color on the inside. The CRT shares the GTS’s 4.4-liter V8, delivering 450 hp at a stratospheric 8300 rpm. This car feels different than the base M3. You can feel that every time you push your foot down on the accelerator. It tops our list of great BMW daily drivers.

BMW 3 Series M3 F80

The new M3 has come under a lot of scrutiny for being too harsh and having an underwhelming engine. We counter that this is one of the best driver-focused BMWs ever. It is quick, stylish and the performance trounces the old M3. The 425 horsepower that the car offers is impressive and the instant torque from the turbocharged engine is utterly addictive. The game has moved on and BMW has built a cracker.

BMW X5 Sport

BMW X5 Sport

The X5 Sport might not be a typical sports car, but don’t be fooled by its bulky size. This 4×4 is still one of the most impressive sports models BMW has ever made. Our friends at Saxton 4×4 will even let you test drive one for yourself if you don’t believe me. It’s like a sports car with the space and size of the best 4×4. If you like driving off-road, then this is certainly the BMW for you. And when you’re driving on those dirt roads, you’ll really be able to catch some speed. Who said SUVs are boring?

BMW M1

BMW M1

I know I know, everybody agrees that the M1 is one of the best BMWs ever. We still think it is underrated which is why it makes our list. In the late 70s and early 80s, the best sports car around was the BMW M1 and it still one of the most iconic cars ever. Despite its age, it remains a car that can get people excited. The incredible design of the car makes sure that the car stands out. And that is even more true today than it was at the time of its original release. It can reach 162 mph, and that’s quite an incredible speed for a road car. It was more like a racing car that happened to drop into the consumer market. Not that we’re complaining about that face.
