1938 Morgan 4/4 Avon Coupé Prototype

IN 1938 Morgan made this prototype as an indication of what a more luxurious car might look like. It later became a foundation for the very rare Drop Head Coupé.

It was different from the other, flat-rad Morgans of the period in that it had much taller doors, ‘traffictor’ side indicators and a curved rear body with stowage space. In October of 1938 Morgan offered the car officially as the Drop Head Coupé, but it lacked the prototype’s rear bodywork.

Later this car was used by the factory for testing and was driven by George Goodall. The car carried the nickname ‘Uncle George’s Winter Carriage’.
