2005 Mazda Senku Concept
Tokyo, October 5, 2005– Mazda has announced that it will showcase the world premiere of the Senku concept vehicle t the 39th Tokyo Motor Show. The name Senku is a Japanese term meaning pioneer, and Mazda definitely highlighting their rotary engine design which is now linked together with a hybrid drive. Mazda Senku, ‘a four-seater rotary sports car for adults’, offers a new departure in Mazda design language. Its design concept is focused on sharp yet mellow shapes and these contradictory factors are integrated to create a proposal for the next Mazda design standard.
Senku’s features include an ultra long wheelbase, minimal overhangs, a smoothly dignified shape devoid of all ornamentation and electric-powered, sliding doors. Each o these elements come together to form and elegant sport coupe.
Located mid-ship between the front and rear axles, the next generation 13B direct injection gasoline rotary engine features a hybrid unit. It achieves high power output and lower fuel consumption along with the ideal 50:50 front/rear weight distribution and a low center of gravity.
