The Model 1004 Packard was offered with 13 different body styles of which 11 were shared with the Packard Twelve which had the same 142 inch wheelbase. These ranged in price from the $2780 Coupe to the $3590 Convertible Sedan.

In January of 1933 Packard launched the 10th series Packards with numerous design changes including a new front V-shaped grill and skirted fenders which was uniform across the entire range. Bullet headlights and 17 inch wire wheels also standard.

Inside the 10th series cars had increased insulation. The closed cars had a more raked front windscreen and tilting door windows on closed models which were dropped one year later. The dashboard was also updated with aircraft inspired features.

The 10th series chassis was redesigned with a cross brace and it also sat lower which let the Packard designers raise the beltline on the doors and have smaller windows. This gave the 1933 cars a sleek appearance as well as elimination of the fender-mounted tool and battery boxes.

A new adjustable braking system was fitted in 1933 using Bendix Drums, a Bragg-Klierath Vacuum booster and Perrot Control on the front wheels. The system used a brake selector knob on the dashboard to increase boost pressure.

Our feature car, chassis 750055, features a Convertible Victoria body which was the second most expensive style offered in the 1933 catalog. It was subject to a 3-year, $400,000 restoration and later appeared at numerous shows including a class victory at the 2000 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

In 2013 the Convertible Victoria was offered and sold at RM Auctions’ Arizona sale for $385,000 USD.

Auction Sales History

1933 Packard Super Eight 1004 Coupe Roadster 750980 – Restored 25 years ago by Stone Barn Automobile Restoration in Vienna, New Jersey, and afterwards, it earned AACA Junior and Senior awards, as well as CCCA First Prize and Senior recognition, with medallion 1329. In its current ownership, the plaudits have continued, with a Third in Class at the 1992 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Following a myriad of awards from local shows, it was accorded CCCA Premier status at the Baltimore Eastern Grand Classic in 1994.
