2009→2009 Subaru Impreza WRX STI Nürburgring 24-Hour

As a showcase of their peroformance parts, Subaru Tecnica International (STI) is building a car for the 24-Hours of Nürburgring. One of a handful of factory teams, they will be up against countless privateers and local German teams. Last year the team achieved a 57th overall in the 3.0 liter class and this year they enter the 1.5-2.0 liter class.

Press Release

STI will compete in the 2009 Nurburgring 24-Hour Race as part of its own independent programme. As it has been a great help up to now in developing our specialty cars, the Nurburgring holds special signiicance for everyone at STI. In particular the old course, spanning 20.832km through the forest and making up 80% of the entire circuit,
is said to be condensed out of the most intense elements of all the world’s roads. From the extreme up-and-down characteristics mixed in with over 160 corners, not to mention the blind crests, to the lack of an escape zone and
the guardrails that run all along the course, it seems to mercilessly test the performance of cars and the drivers’ skill. Even more, the weather can change easily, and it can become almost pitch black at night leaving only your
headlights to rely on. But as STI aims to make parts and cars that allow a good driving experience on any roads, these extreme conditions make the Nurburgring perfect for use as their development grounds.

The car being entered, the “Subaru Impreza STI” is an improved version of the machine campaigned in last year’s race. Changes such as use of a carbon bonnet have lightened the car, and through repeated test runs, we have completely rethought the suspension. By changing the tyre size and power unit set up, we have made a car that feels both strong and lexible and one that is easier to drive. With accumulation of engineering powers at STI, we built the car internally – from the engine controls customized for this year’s required air-restrictor, to chassis speciications, all the way to assembly. Furthermore we’ve proactively used STI sport parts and Group N Rally Car parts already available on the market such as the Flexible Tower Bar, and have also installed some prototype sport parts, scheduled to go on sale at a later date. In addition, our personnel’s team clothing and racing gear are
also based on “STI Performance” quality that relects our pursuit of driving pleasure.
