2009 Morgan Morgan Aero SuperSports GT3

In 2009, a new Morgan appeared at the opening round of the FIA GT3 Silverstone meeting that mimicked the recently released Targa version called the SuperSports. Like the earlier Aero 8 racecars, this was designed and run by AutoGt Racing out of Dannemarie, France.

Using the capable aluminum chassis and BMW V8 engine, the Aero 8 is a good basis for a competent GT3 racecar. AutoGT fitted the car with larger AP Racing brakes, a Hollinger 6-Speed sequential gearbox and a full rollcage to comply with safety regulations.

In this configuration, AutoGT won the first two races of the season with drivers Dimitri Enjalbert and Johan-Boris Scheier taking round one and Gael Lesoudier and Maxime Martin winning round 2. The victory was especially sweet since this was the maiden race for the Morgan SuperSports which had been in development for 2 years. Furthermore Morgans was celebrating their 100th anniversary at their home track.

Later in the season, Gael Lesoudier and Maxime Martin placed second at the third round in Adria. These victories helped AutoGT Racing place 6th in the 2009 FIA GT3 European Teams Championship.
