2004 Sportec SP580

For the summer season 2004, the well-known Swiss car modification company Sportec launches an exclusive kind of open-air pleasure. With its sporty and elegant design, the Sportec Cabriolet SP580 convinces beautiful things with an output of 161.11 bhp per litre.

At first glance, the look of the new Sportec highlight is impressive. A well proportionate front spoiler lip and classy carbon elements reinforce the unique aesthetics of the SP580. A special touch is added by the multi-award winning alloy wheel Mono/10 which is produced in Formula 1 technology for Porsche models. The rim is available in the sizes 8.5 x 19, 10 x 19 and 11 x 19, weighs 10.5 to 12.4 kg only whilst still being extremely strong. It guarantees improved, safer driveability thanks to lower unsprung mass. The elegant, sporty 10 spoke wheel satisfies even the highest design demands. The cockpit combines sporty functionality with an exclusive ambiance.

Serious Modifications

At a closer look, the SP580 provides an insight into its modified inner life. Fine-tuning electronics in combination with an expanded air intake system, a carbon air-filter case, Sportec turbo chargers K24.700, sports camshafts, modified valve timing and fuel system, an exhaust with sports catalytic converter and a high performance clutch – these are the secrets of the SP580’s outstanding performance. The 3.6 l bi-turbo engine reaches an output of 580 HP at 6900 rpm, a plus of 160 hp (119 kW) in comparison with the series model. The torque has gained 125 ft lbs (170 nm) and goes up to 730 Nm at 4200 rpm. The vehicle is fully approved and fulfils the Euro 3/D4 exhaust guidelines.

Performance

The result is impressive. In 3.6 seconds, the SP580 speeds up from 0 to 100 km/h und reaches its maximum velocity at 336 km/h. This extreme performance requires extensive modification of the chassis frame. It is equipped with Sportec sport absorbers, with a special progressive spring set and its height is adjustable up to 35 mm. In cooperation with the manufacturer Continental, a special tyre has been developed to meet the requirements. The Sportcontact 2 Vmax guarantees maximum adhesion in extreme driving conditions as well. Front- and rear axle dispose of a high performance braking system. On the front axle, a fixed calliper disc in the dimension 350 x 32 mm is installed.
