2002 Peugeot 206 WRC
As was the case in 2000, when it finished the year strongly to clinch both the Manufacturers’ and Drivers’ titles, Peugeot Sport concluded the 2001 season in magnificent style. A one-two finish in the final round in Great Britain saw it retain the Manufacturers’ crown. Of the 2001 calendar’s fourteen rounds, Peugeot collected four one-two finishes while its drivers claimed six wins, a success rate significantly superior to that of its opponents.
Deciding to focus on thier 2002 WRC efforts, Peugeot withdrew thier British Touring Car support. Also aiding the WRC support is the addition of Richard Burns for 2002. He was a successfull Subaru driver which took the 2001 Drivers’ Championship.
After 8 rounds of the 2002 WRC season, Peugeot seem ready to repeat thier previous Manfucturers’ Championship. They stand 14 points above any other team with Marcus Gronholm leading the Drivers’ Championship.
