1995 Buick XP2000
The XP2000 five-passenger sedan is a mobile showcase for electronic technology that presaged today’s Digital Age. The heart of the XP2000 concept car is a network of computers that tailors the car to the driver and allows it to use the Intelligent Vehicle Highway Systems planned for the future.
The XP2000’s high-tech features include a remote keyless fob that can adapt the car’s seats, climate controls and even driving response to a specific driver’s tastes; a “Smart Card” reader that allows the driver to charge fuel, food and roadside services; an advanced head-up display and an instrument panel display that can be adapted for use with a personal computer; a navigation system with arrows that guide the driver along a map display; and an array of safety features, ranging from eight air bags (including one in each door panel) to a detection system for obstacles near the path of the car.
