1994 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution II Group A
The orginal Lancer Evolution yeilded little victory for Mitsubishi. In an attempt to change this record a new version of the Lancer Evolution was released. This car was aptly titled the Evolution II.
For the 1994 season, a newly devleoped aerodyanmics set the car apart from the Lancer Evolution. A new larger rear wing was affixed as was a more agressive front spoiler. Horsepower was raised by 10 bhp.
Evolution IIs were raced in the 1994 season up until the begining of 1995. During this time cars were campaigned in both the Asia-Pacific Rally Championship and World Rally Championship.
The first major victory was achieved with a Lancer Evolution was had at the 1995 Swedish Rally (WRC). It was at this rally where Mitsubishi’s Active Four-wheel Drive system was first employed. Using a computer controlled driveline, the car was able to apply power were the most grip a could be had. This greatly helped the Lancer’s remain tractable on the snowy Swedish passes.
