1986 Lamborghini LM002

In 1981, brutish Lamborghini LM002 was a part military, part SUV, part maniac and 100% awesome. It was dubbed the “Rambo-Lambo”. The LM002 had with four-wheel drive, seating for four, and more than enough room for luggage, resulting in a vehicle that could go anywhere and one that makes no compromises.

Aside from the obvious addition of rear seats, the LM002’s interior is instantly familiar to anyone who has spent time in a Countach. Wood and leather is abundant, and even though the V-12 sits in front of the driver rather than behind, the exhaust note is still unmistakable, as its engine was sourced from none other than the Countach.

444 hp, 5,167 cc four-valve DOHC V-12 engine with six Weber carburetors, five-speed manual transmission, independent front and rear suspension with coil springs and telescopic shock absorbers, and four-wheel hydraulic ventilated disc brakes. Feeding that thirsty V-12 engine was a massive 76-gallon fuel tank, which helped accommodate its 8-mpg fuel consumption. Its performance was extraordinary, as it could complete a 0–60 mph run in just 7.7 seconds, which was incredible considering the LM002’s curb weight was 5,720 pounds!

1986 Lamborghini LM002

1989 Lamborghini LM002 – sold for $77,000 – This example comes from a noted private California collection. It has been kept in climate-controlled storage, was properly maintained and is reportedly in outstanding condition. We are informed that the car runs and drives very well and that the air conditioning blows cold. In fact, the car even received a new set of Scorpion tires, made especially by Lamborghini in recent years to satisfy the needs of owners who had worn theirs down. Only 301 LM002s were built in total. They rarely come to market, much less in such outstanding condition. For those in search of something a little out of the ordinary and who see little excitement in a G55 AMG Mercedes-Benz or a Porsche Cayenne Turbo, this is the way to go! Auction Source: RM Auctions’ 2010 Sports & Classics of Monterey
