1981 Porsche 924 Carrera GTS

After the end of production of the 400 Porsche 924 Carrera GT road sports cars at the beginning of December 1980, a small evolution series of pure competitive cars was launched: the Porsche 924 Carrera GTS.

The two-liter engine of the Porsche 924 Carrera GTS turbo-charged with a maximum of 1.0 bar and classified in Group 4 according to the FIA Regulations developed 245 hp (180 kW) at a speed of 6,250 revs./min. and accelerated from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds.

The sport chassis was fitted with triangular control arms and McPherson telescopic spring struts at the front, cast aluminum diagonal control arms with coil springs at the rear, stabilizers and Bilstein gas-filled shock absorbers. The internally ventilated, perforated dual circuit disc brakes also derived from the Porsche 911 Turbo, as did the wheel hubs.

The pure sporty nature of the vehicle which was already seen in these performances also extended to its comfort: for there was none, apart from the fact that sports drivers might consider the racing seats deriving from the Porsche 935 to be comfortable. The interior was covered and designed merely with black needle felt. For weight reasons Porsche has even dispensed with the damping material used on the Porsche 924 Carrera GT. The Porsche 924 Carrera GTS weighs 1,121 kg. –Porsche
