1966 – 1968 Ferrari 330 GTC

Ferrari 330 GTC

In 1966 Ferrari and Pininfarina released a new coupe at the 1966 Geneva Motor Show on chassis 8329. It was a more luxurious alternative to the 275 GTB/4 and took styling cues from the flagship 500 Superfast which it effectively replaced.

Parts from Ferrari’s existing production made the 330 GTC familiar within the range. It used a modified version of the 275 GTB/4’s frame and the Tipo 209/66 V12 engine from the 330 GT 2+2 Series II. It also benefited from disc brakes, a fully independent suspension and timeless styling from Pininfarina.

The Coupe’s design had some quintessential Ferrari traits such as the oval eggcrate grill and pronounced front fenders from the 500 Superfast and mixed them with a delicate coupe body having slim pillars and excellent all-around visibility.

With 300 bhp on tap, the 330 GTC was no slouch either. It could reach 60 mph in 6.5 seconds and max out at a top speed of 150 mph. Power was put down by either ten-hole cast alloy wheels or optional Borrani Record wire wheels.

Inside, the car was well appointed with power windows, leather seats, a teak veneered dashboard and a triple-spoked, wooden-rimmed steering wheel. Air conditioning was offered as an option.

It’s no surprise that the 330 GTC sold well. 600 were produced before the model was updated in 1968 with a 4.4-litre V12 and renamed the 365 GTC.

Chassis 10517

Our feature car is chassis 10517 which was built for the 49th annual Torino Motor Show in Verde Medio paint with red leather interior. Not long afterward it was registered new in Italy and carefully used by four different Italian owners before coming the United States in 1974.

In 1991, the car was still almost completely original when Steve Tilliack noted in an appraisal that 105017 “must be considered one of the most original of the type in existence. The condition of the car reflects a high pride of ownership.”

What Steve said in 1991 holds true today. The car still has the same fit and finish as it did when it was first displayed at the Torino Motor Show. It also retains the coveted tools, jack and driver’s handbook and original ignition key which complete the package.

We photographed the 105017 on the glorious sights of 17 Mile Drive in Pebble Beach, California where the car has been for the last several years.

1966→1968 Ferrari 330 GTC

1966 Ferrari 330 GTC 09359 – sold for €448,000. The 330 GTC offered here at Villa Erba had its chassis frame sent to Pininfarina in September 1966, and its engine was completed that November. The automobile was finished in February 1967 and delivered by Rome concessionaire Motor S.a.s. di Carla Allegretti e C. to local resident Antonio Colaiacomo. Colaiacomo retained the car until 1974, during which time it was judiciously serviced and maintained at the Ferrari Factory Assistenza Clienti at Viale Trento Trieste in Modena. It then passed through the hands of two movie companies in Rome, Cineluce Roma S.r.l. and GGR S.r.l., before being acquired in 1980 by Paola Paoli, of Pisa, who displayed it at Ferrari Days in Modena in September 1983. In 1984, the car passed to Alessandro Boldrini, of Italy, and it was again put out on display, this time at the Ferrari Club Italia meeting at Alessandria.

Today, the car is still an extremely nice example, presented in its original Argento over Bleu Connolly hides, just as it was when it left the factory, and with its original “A34686-ROMA” registration, giving it a delightful period-correct flair; this Ferrari literally, and proudly, carries its history with it. Having undergone a recent full mechanical overhaul by specialist Borghi, with invoices on file for €76,000, it is in excellent running order, and it was accompanied by its original Italian libretto, and books. Auction Source: 2013 Villa d’Erba Auction by RM

It changed hands in 1991, selling to Mr Giorgio Ferretti from Brescia, who obtained the ASI certificate (homologation number 5803). From 2000 to 2003, this Italian beauty was found in Monaco, with the registration F 693, before going back to Italy. More recently, in 2010 and 2011, the car has participated successfully in the Coupes des Alpes. It had a major service and work carried out in 2012 at the Garage Bonini, for the sum of €26,500. The interior is upholstered in stunning sky blue leather in immaculate condition. On lifting the bonnet, the engine bay looks like new, with no trace of oil and unbelievably clean. It is fitted with magnificent Borrani wheels. It has the original chassis and engine numbers, and, a charming detail, the original toolkit and owner’s manual are to be sold with the car. It has just passed its inspection for certification by Ferrari with brio. The famous red folder shouldn’t be long arriving, either just before or just after the sale – we are dependent on the factory. Auction Source: Artcurial Motorcars à 2013 Rétromobile

1966→1968 Ferrari 330 GTC

1966 Ferrari 330 GTC 09093 – sold for €193,200. Just 21 of the svelte coupes entered the UK, this one following the debut of the model in Geneva that year would grace the London Motor Show stand in October 1966. Its original scheme was Blue Chiaro with an interior trimmed in beige leather, with light blue carpets and beige headlining. To British spec, in right hand drive form, Borrani wheels completed its guise for the motor show.

As noted on records supplied by Ferrari historian Marcel Massini, it was first registered with British plates ‘DBY 9D’ on November 4th and was sold new to Dr. Richard Wilkins. 6 years later it passed to R.D. Were of Esher, Surrey and by 1980 it was owned by P.E. Voight of Hayward’s Heath, West Sussex. In 1985/6 the file with the car notes that its engine was overhauled by Kent High Performance cars. Less than 5 years later it passed into the current distinguished private ownership where it has remained for the last 20 years.

Best described as an older restoration, the car’s understated blue Chiaro livery was clearly completed to a high standard as it has worn well over time and still presents well. Its alloy wheels have been refurbished and the chrome remains in very good order also, while the interior, trimmed in fawn leather with dark brown carpets has only light aging. The only noted update to its generally standard specification is a more modern Pioneer stereo. Accompanying the car is a file including bills for its mid-1980s engine rebuild. Auction Source: 2011 Automobiles d’exception au Grand Palais by Bonhams
