One of the wildest racecar designs of the 1950s was penned by Mario Boano, for Carlo Abarth, in 1954. From the moment it was launched in 1955, the 207A Spyder had an unmistakable presence.
Abarth built the 207A on a steel box frame based on a Fiat 1100 Model 103 sedan. Front suspension was by Fiat wishbones and the rear was a solid axle with coil springs and locating arms. Motivation came from an Abarth-modified Fiat 1,089-cc engine which produced 66 bhp at 6,000 rpm. At only 1,148-lb, that was good enough for a top speed of 116 mph.
