The design of the 90 hp Mercedes that was built in 1904 was almost identical with that of the 90 hp cars which were destroyed in the great fireof the DMG Cannstatt factory in 1903. One major change consisted of the bore reduction from 170 to 165 mm. The disadvantage resulting fromthe smaller displacement was compensated by increasing the speed from 950 to 1150/min.
