2006 Ruf RGT
In December 2006 RUF presented the RUF RGT at the Essen Motor Show – a light weight Coupe built around a high-revving natural aspirated engine that is based on the 997 when it comes to technology. RGT stands for RUF GT. The RGT is the perfect piece of sports equipment for the street and the race track. Two body styles of the RGT are available – the coupe and the cabriolet.
A prominent aerodynamic feature at the front of the RGT is the bumper with the five air intakes. Incoming air through the big air intakes on the outside and in the centre flows against the water coolers of the engine. Two additional small air intakes channel the air to the brakes. A black narrow vent is located ahead of the front deck lid. Incoming air is channelled through the centre radiator. The aerodynamically optimized exterior mirrors are electrically adjustable and heatable. The mirror base and housing are available upon request in carbon fibre. The two aluminium doors with integrated side protection bars save 14 kilograms. Wider glass fibre fender flares screwed to the body allow the use of bigger wheel and tyre combinations. In addition, they can be replaced budget-priced in case of repair. The rear lid painted in body colour with the adjusted duck tail consists of Kevlar Carbon fibre. The rear spoiler that is mounted to the duck tail is made of visible Carbon fibre.
Two oval exhaust end pipes open out through two outlets in the rear bumper.
The high revving normally aspirated engine is based on the crankcase of the 964 engine generation. It is equipped with dry-sump lubrication with a separate oil tank to ensure a reliable oil supply for the engine even at high cornering speeds. The 3.8 litre sports engine has a high compression ratio of 12.0 : 1. The out put of 445 hp (327 kW) is reached at 7,600 rpm. The maximum torque of 420 Nm abuts at the crankshafts at 5,100 rpm. The RGT is equipped with the variable camshaft system. This enables an optimization of power, torque and consumption across the complete power band by a rotation speed dependent and load-dependent adjustment of the intake camshafts. The variable aspirated engine features two resonance flaps to balance the air for an ideal filling of the cylinders. The connecting rods are made of light, high-strength titanium. A digital engine electronic, i. e. a motronic with drive by wire, undertakes the task of engine management. The RGT engine captivates by its spontaneous response behaviour and its distinct revving ability.
The RGT will exclusively be delivered in rear-wheel-drive and 6 speed transmission with limited slip differential and short shift kit.
The independent front suspension combines McPherson struts with aluminium links. The strut suspension forms a unit with the front axle cross member, the sway bar and the steering gear. The rear axle assembly consists of sub frame-mounted multi-link suspension, featuring LSA construction. This design is another important factor in the car’s responsive driving dynamics. The sports suspension is adjusted for road traffic as well as for track use by the help of especially adjusted Bilstein gas shock absorbers and chassis springs.
The brake system consists of red-painted monobloc callipers and ventilated, cross drilled brake discs. The monobloc callipers are made of one piece. The front discs measure 350 millimetres in diameter with 6 piston brake callipers. The rear brake discs have a diameter of 330 millimetres and 4 callipers. The RGT is serially equipped with a stability management with ABS, ASR and ABD. For an extra charge we also offer a Ceramic-Composite brake system.
The three-piece 19 inch Superleggera aluminium wheels are equipped with a very light forged centre piece. The front wheels have a width of 8.5 inch and the rear wheels 12.5 inches. Tyres of 235/35 ZR 19 are mounted in the front and 325/30 ZR 19 in the rear. As an option, forged, single-piece 20 inch aluminium wheels in classis RUF 5-spoke-design are also available.
The interior of the car is serially equipped with black light-weight items, sport seats and six airbags. To reduce weight, the rear seats are missing. An airbag sports steering wheel, an aluminium leather shift knob, aluminium pedals and foot rest are mounted in the passenger compartment. In the cockpit of the RGT the adapted RUF instruments with green scaling stand out. The analogue speedometer reaches 230 mph (370 kph). The equipment is rounded off by an air conditioning, the Communication Management System with colour screen and sound system. The headliner of the RGT is covered with anthracite Alcantara. The standard RGT Coupe is equipped with an integrated roll cage which is covered almost entirely by the Alcantara of the A, B and C pillar. A crossbar, which can be demounted when the rear is to be used, is connected to the bar behind the B pillar. By request, the RGT can be manufactured with rear seats or with an individually designed luggage rack.
Zero to 62 mph (100 kph) takes just a scant 4.2 seconds, zero to 125 mph (200 kph) just 13.5 seconds. The top speed is 197 mph (315 kph).
