2005 Carlsson CLS
The CLS 55 AMG is a treat thanks to its balanced AMG characteristics and performance. Nevertheless, Carlsson, from Merzig in Southwest Germany, has created several packages as their interpretation of this thoroughbred which was already aimed at the ambitious Mercedes-Benz customer.
Carlsson’s CK 55 engine kit is their most powerful option for the CLS and offers up 560 bhp (412 kw) at 6000 rpm. It lets the saloon car cover the standing start to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds, to reach the electronic limiter’s top speed of 320 km/h. The torque produced by this power plant is a mighty 810 Nm at 2600 rpm.
Less is more. Carlsson have limited themselves to a few effective modifications that give the already gorgeous CLS a more sporting appearance. The Carlsson RS front-spoiler lip harmoniously continues the lines of the CLS 55 AMG and thanks to a reduction in lift, the driver profits from improved handling. The car is finished off with Carlsson’s ‘Ultra Light’ series measuring 8.5 in by 20 in and 11 in by 20 in inches on the front and rear respectively.
Carlsson’s sports silencer, with four tail pipes, dominates the rear of the car. Given that a correctly tuned exhaust system is essential for increased engine performance, Carlsson sports rear silencers are optimised in comparison with the standard version. The systems are made entirely of stainless steel and offer a sporting sound that is striking without being a distraction.
As with all Carlsson cars, an exclusive range of interior appointments is available to suit each customer’s individual taste. The combination of high-quality Carlsson leather and Alcantara in anthracite with rhombus quilting gives the CLS an independent character. To match the upholstery, the standard trim parts are finished in black piano varnish. And, thanks to the ergonomically designed Carlsson sports steering wheel with its Alcantara covering, the driver has a secure and comfortable grip on the car at all times.
